whoo... 55 half pound (227g) jars of run honey. 26 already spoken for (local shop and neighbours). We'll be bringing some to sell via Designs at the DWCon @ £2 each, so if anybody wants me to put one aside for them, let me know and I'll do so. We'll also bring some comb set honey - not yet worked out weights and prices, but will try and get to that later this afternoon - they won't be in jars or proper "comb" packs though, they'll be in clean plastic "takeaway" containers.

[Edit: Can people give me their con membership number please, just in case it's Korenwolf who is on the stall and he doesn't recognise people - I'd hate for anyone to miss out]

We have been extracting what liquid honey we have and sorting the granulated combs for storage until after the con. I am now going to eat dinner (yes, at almost 10pm) and then go and do another couple of hours painting.

A selection of five of the different varieties of squash in the garden. Can't remember what the middle one is called, but I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be picked when they're under 2" across... not 7" :) There was another variety planted, same sort as the middle one, but bright yellow, not seen any of them ripen up yet.

I took Sketch (the young chick - approx 7 months old) to the vet this morning. A few days ago Mildred (Sketch's mum) decided to bite his foot through the bars of the cage (she was in the cage, he was out of the cage) and tore one of his back toes open. It seemed to be healing okay, albeit still swollen, but Sketch was obviously having trouble and couldn't put that foot down for more than a few seconds.

The vet agreed that the bite was healing nicely and there was no infection, but diagnosed a break or dislocation of that toe. Bugger all can be done except to wait and see if it heals - and make sure he has places to perch that are quite stable so that he feels secure - if it won't/can't heal, then it may need to be amputated :( He wasn't impressed with being in the travel cage (or outside, or in the car) and is now fluffed up having a nap back in his own cage.

The vet complimented me on my "handling skills" - she sees a number of bird owners who haven't got the foggiest idea how to hold a bird. Nice to get a compliment from a professional ;)

Grabbed from someone else (thanks *g*) who compiled it from postings to the SDM :)

Mildred (our female peach-faced lovebird) is desperate to find a nest site. We don't want her having any more eggs just yet - she had three clutches last year, we took all the eggs away from her with the second and third, and it really wore her out - so we're not letting her have any suitable boxes etc that she could turn into a nest box. The bottom of their cage is covered in three or four sheets of newspaper. All day today Mildred has been burrowing - it's the only way to describe it. She managed to get under the paper and ran around, jumping up and down while under there... George (her mate) was on top of the newspaper... he went *bounce* several times until he got the hint and climbed up the side of the cage. Then they both went under the paper and lots of screeching and running around happened. After a while, they came out and climbed on the perch and had a nap. Now Mildred is back under the paper, and George is carefully watching the lump under the paper move and then gleefully jumping on it. Mildred keeps rushing out and trying to chase him away, but it's no good, he just does it again.

Damn damn damn. The St Catherines Medieval Fayre in Frome (Somerset, near the Wiltshire border), which didn't happen last year, is on again this year and I was planning on having a stall there (they'd give us a discount if we demonstrated something like chainmail knitting and wore costumes) but I've just found out that it's on the 18th of August :/ Damn and blast. There's no way that it wins out over the DWCon, it's a no-brainer from purely business terms and a social no-brainer as that'll be when I catch up with most of my friends this year.

Anybody who likes that sort of thing, and who isn't attending DWCon, might be interested in attending? Let me know and I'll pass contact details on.

This may make you feel squeamish, but I think it's something that needs disseminating far and wide - thanks to [livejournal.com profile] princess_kessie for the original article. She has posted it here. It's important for women, and for anybody who is (or plans to be) in a relationship with a woman.

http://designs.ladykayla.org/ (though http://www.ladykayla.org/ works as well) is gradually taking shape and has a handful of live pages now. Paypal "basket and checkout" system has been incorporated so that people can straight away purchase off-the-shelf stuff, though they will still need to contact me to get prices for orders and commissions. I also need to do a "shipping policy" page and a "returns policy" page. And add a note to the front index page that all prices include shipping within the UK - still need to work out a rate for overseas etc.

Constructive comments welcome as always :)

We bought these a few months ago but have now got seasons 1-5 box sets - Volumes 9,10, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 21 - on ebay individually.

We've sat in front of the telly (all 4 of us) with a coffee table full of "party food" and watched several eps of SG1, breaking briefly at the change over to watch the fireworks on telly - and shout at the muppet reporter to STFU.

In case anybody might be in the area... I shall be having a stall at the "Health Wellbeing and Craft Fair" at The Pheasant Inn, Bath Road, Chippenham, Wilts. It is from 9.30am to 4pm Saturday (12/11). Admission is £1 - 50% of admission goes to charity. As well as the craft fair there will be practitioners of various therapies - acupuncture, crystal therapy, magnetic therapy, hypnotherapy, indian head massage, reflexology, reiki, sports massage, stress management etc - there will also be 15 minute "taster sessions" of most of those from £5 each.

Some paintings (they've been up before but I just got them back from an art show and thought I'd give them another try) and some jewellery. I'm also contemplating starting an ebay shop between now and the new year. Keep an eye on this page for new additions over the next week or so.
